Parking in Whitby
Whitby is an ancient fishing town never really designed for cars. Most properties in the town centre don’t have car parking facilities at all and so it can be difficult to find a place to park, especially in summer.

Options
Apart from the obvious idea of not bringing your car at all, in which case you'll rely on public transport (bus and rail) you have the following parking options:
Park & Ride
Park outside the town and take the regular buses into the centre of town. Unfortunately you cannot leave your car over night at the park and ride.
W Zones
The local authority introduced a scheme some time ago allowing parking in designated 'W' zones with a scratch card, or in some areas a shopping disc. Most accommodation providers will either give you a complimentary scratch card, or provide them for a fee.
Paid and display car parks. Use one of the car parks provided.
Free parking. There are some areas (alongside Pannett Park, Spring Vale, some others further out of the town centre) where you can park for free, but please be considerate as locals will often use these too.

W Zones (W Zone Scratch Cards)
Many accommodation providers will give you an on street parking scratch card for the W zones. They may give you this for free, or they may charge (scratch cards have to be purchased by accommodation providers so if you are charged please take that into account). These permits allow their guests to park for free in Whitby’s designated W zones. Tourists who are staying in Whitby can park for up to 4 days with a correctly validated scratch card. Please speak to your accommodation before you arrive to see if a free, pre-paid parking scratch card will be provided for you.
