Our Story
Welcome to Whitby is a volunteer group helping to make sure that visitors to the town have a great experience. We work together with local businesses, councils and others to help visitors to Whitby get the most out of this beautiful and historic town.
We came together at the onset of Coronavirus, worried about the terrible financial impact of the shut down of the town. We then decided to try and give our NHS workers something to look forward to and so we came up with The Whitby Thank You Weekend and more recently we worked together to make sure that the town was set up to be as safe as possible during the covid-19 pandemic.
The Whitby Thank You Weekend was led by Andy and Polly who at that time were owners of Highgate House , with the fantastic support of the project team: Julie Pickard of The Ship Inn, Garath Jackson of, Vanessa Gummer of Rosslyn House and Phill Hesketh of The Belfry.
The Covid Secure Whitby project was coordinated by Andy Brown of, with the fantastic support of Ali Herrick (The Dolphin), Andi Jones (The Langley), Emma Khan (Riviera Guest House) and Sophie Senior (Sanders Yard).
To provide some sparkle in a dark time (lockdowns) Whitby's Dazzling Christmas Advent Calendar, was held in December 2020.
Whitby Ice Rink was held for the first time in 2021/22 and then again in 2022/23 to add some extra fun and enjoyment to the winter season in the town. The project team was Julie Pickard of The Ship Inn, Garath Jackson of The Landsbury, Paul Hilton of North West design Studios, and Rebecca Mansoor of Eskside Cottage.
